    the rubber-tired roller have wide variety of rubber-tired compaction equipment. the large-size tires are better to use for cohesionless soils to avoid shear and rutting. for cohesive solid, if lift thickness is decreased, the light wheel loads can be used. this rubber-roller is use for clean, coarse-grained soils (4%-8% passing No. 200 sieve) and compacted lift thickness is 10 inches. this equipment also use for fine-grained soils/well-graded, dirty coarse-grained soils (> 8% passing the No. 200 sieve) with compacted lift thickness is 6-8 in.
    it is important to select the right type of compaction equipment to achieved the desired compaction efficiency for particular soil types. and for the sandy clay for this highway project, i think the rubber-tired is more suitable for this work.

    soil compaction is a process that should be done to give more strength to the soil to support the load. there are many types of compaction equipment available. the selection for the equipment is based on the types of soil. in this essay, we will discuss about the sheepsfoot roller and the rubber- tired roller and choose the most suitable to used for sandy clay.
    the sheepsfoot roller is use in a smaller projects for 40-in dia, and loaded to 0.75-1.75 tons/lineal foot of drums. it is not suitable for clean coarse-grained soils. use for fine-grained soils/dirty coarse grained soils ( > 20% passing No.200 sieve), and compacted lift thickness is 6 inches. this type of equipment is also suitable to use for 60-in dia, drum loaded to 1.5-3 tons/lineal foot of drum such as in earth dam, highway and airfield work. usually, this compaction type is use to compact the impervious zone for earth dam and to make linings for the soil.
